GAMCHEON

Gamcheon Culture Village is popular for its brightly painted houses built in staircase fashion on the foothills of a coastal mountain. Also famous for its layered streets and twisted alleys filled with art and sculpture, this town is a doorway to a playful place with a history of its own.

LOGO VARIATIONS

The design of the logo is inspired by the colorful houses that are the main character of the town. The bold and chunky shapes in the logo are intended to abstractly represent the houses. The shapes are stacked on top of each other just like the houses built on the slope of the mountain. The color runs and the motifs in the logo variations illustrate different seasons — summer, autumn, and winter.

LOGO LOCKUPS

Gamcheon is a town famously known for its fun colors and art, but there is a history behind each of these colorful walls. A history of war, survival, and thriving. A visit to this town also presents an opportunity to meet its local residents and learn about their simple lives and the story behind those colorful facades. Through the tagline ‘Takes you Home’, I wanted the visitors to find a home away from home.

ICONS

The design of the icons is kept simple and playful to match the vibe of the town. Food, exploring the alleys filled with art and sculpture and the shopping markets are the main activities and attractions of the town. I used common shapes like circles, squares, and lines to create the icons maintaining a similar style throughout. The icons can be used for different seasons using the seasonal color palette of the brand. Through its food, art, and markets, Gamcheon invites people to have a home away from home experience. The taglines for these activities are chosen to portray that feeling.

PATTERNS

I designed the patterns keeping in mind the playful and colorful portrayal of the town in this rebranding. To go with the theme of simplicity and fun, they are designed with simple shapes. The patterns are representational of the main activities of the town. Fish patterns can be used for banners and way finders for food, house patterns for signs indicating exploring the town, and market patterns for shopping signages.
